NO MORE COMMUNALISM

The communalists of both Sinhala and Tamil nationalities are once again trying to arouse communalist clashes among Sri Lankans. We as a responsible political party call upon the people and the progressive elements of Sri Lankan people to take immediate action to stop such attempts. The full text of the press release issued by the polit bureau of the JVP is as following.

"Instead of rallying the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people under a single flag, the communalist forces of both Sinhala and Tamil nationalities are trying to arouse communalist violence once again. Sri lankans were divided using communalist actions, from the colonial times. A so called ‘Anti Terrorist Movement’ and Tamil organizations have confronted against one another. The Anti Terrorist Movement has been acting so as to arouse Tamil organizations. It actually became a success when the Tamil organizations were aroused. This has become a threat to the peaceful lives of Tamil and Sinhala people in the island. Just as the Tamil communalism can arouse and strengthen Sinhala communalism, the Sinhala communalism can do nothing but arousing and strengthening the Tamil communalism. Non of these communalist organization are able to enhance the harmonious living for Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people in the island.

These elements attempt to create another Black mark in Sri Lankan history just like they did in the black July of 1983. They are working as cat’s paw organizations to the capitalist paeties, warmonger politicians and to the foreign spying agencies. These organizations have been arousing communalist ideas. We must identify the actual intentions of these organizations. The people must be made aware against such coups.

We hereby appeal all the progressive politicians and organizations to actively participate in defeating such communalist attempts. JVP call upon Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim peoples and the Mass Media too to join in the struggle against communalism"
